Małgorzata Wielek-Mandrela "Portrety pamięciowe" Exhibition Opening. Boheńska Gallery 7.04.2011

Born in 1976, Małgorzata Wielek-Mandrela is one of Poland's most promising young contemporary artists. She has participated in mayor national and international exhibitions and contests. Her artworks can be found in private art collections in Germany, France, Switzerland and Poland. In the series entitled “Photofits”, “Landscapes” and “Hair”, the artist preserves characteristic, recognizable style and painting manner. In her paintings she mixes various realities – the reality of her own memory, of a dream, of art. The artists uses commonly known symbols and references to her favorite artists like van Gogh. She employs elementary painting subjects such as portrait and landscape but marked with her emotions, memories and disturbing oneiric climate. Elusiveness and surrealism of those visions is emphasized by streaks of paint, which gradually overgrow the canvas. Małgorzata Wielek-Mandrela combines the order of nature with the order of culture – artistic topoi, inner landscapes, faces, hair into co-existing, common space of a painting.
